We *really* made it (strike and all)

Just a quick note in between loads of laundry and quick dinners to let you (mostly our parents) know that we are ALL safely at home. I think the habit of REALLY lowering expectations helps... I truly did not expect to make it back today, and had stocked up on food, snacks, and bribes accordingly.

Well, pas de probleme all in all. We had no trouble getting a seat on the (six hours later than planned) Beauvais-Paris train, and although it took quite a bit of hustling, we met up wtih Kathy and Alex in Gare de Lyon and snagged seats on the TGV to Beaune. Now with glasses of wine firmly in the hands of adults and plates of boring, non-restaurant food in the mouths of kids, we all are pretty happy.

As I explained on the train to a very nice older French gentleman (as I was not sure what seat to take), "this is my first strike of the trains". Hopefully (since we won't be here that much longer), it will also be the last!
